Our Story
In 1960, Benson’s Hospitality Group was formed in order to build and open the original, iconic Holiday Inn in downtown Athens next to the University of Georgia’s historic north campus. By 1996, BHG had acquired the Ramada Inn just a few blocks away from our first hotel – and eventually converted that location to the Holiday Inn Express that it is today.
We followed in 2006 with the opening of the Hilton Garden Inn across the street from the Classic Center and then opened our first SpringHill Suites by Marriott in West Athens in 2008. Our most recent hotel is our second SpringHill Suites by Marriott located in downtown Athens, which we opened in 2018. And to bring it all full circle, we are now in the process of redeveloping that original Holiday Inn property for a stunning new hotel which we will be announced in the near future.
Currently Benson’s Hospitality Group now operates four high-quality, award-winning hotel properties in the Classic City – Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Garden Inn, SpringHill Suites by Marriott/West Athens and SpringHill Suites by Marriott/Downtown Athens.
